Save a Child’s Heart is teaming up with Wolfson Medical Center in Holon, Israel to raise $4 million for urgently-needed hospital space and equipment as the fight against COVID-19 continues in Israel and around the world.
After a month-long battle with COVID-19 on ECMO (Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation), Shimon Sasson is recovering under the medical care of Dr. Hagi Dekel, one of the leading surgeons of Save a Child’s Heart, and his team. An ECMO machine, the most aggressive form of life support available, pumps and oxygenates a patient's blood outside the body, allowing the heart and lungs to rest.

Hospitals are key to fighting the pandemic, but they are strained around the world, including in Israel. Wolfson Medical Center is a key node in the Israeli healthcare system serving 500,000 Israeli people in central Israel, many of them among the most at-risk group of people aged 60+.
As of May 5, in Israel, 16,268 people have tested positive for COVID-19 and 237 have died.
After surgery ends, the healing begins. After receiving free heart procedures, the children went home with their families to heal.
